Pennsylvania Behavioral Health Referral Manager
About Accountable
Accountable is a new kind of support for substance use recovery pairing real humans and technology. Every member is matched with a certified peer recovery coach who has been through recovery themselves, backed by daily breathalyzer monitoring, remote drug testing, and recovery groups, all delivered virtually. Some members come to us as the step down after treatment, some for support alongside therapy or 12-step work, and a growing number as their first step toward a different relationship with alcohol.
We were founded by people in recovery. More than 10,000 members have come through the program, coverage is expanding across every payer segment, and we're building our field organization right now.
The role
You'll own referral growth for Pennsylvania, one of our growth states. You'll lead a team of field Territory Managers, each working a defined territory, while carrying your own book of the state's most strategic referral accounts.
We're building this in real time. Territory Manager hiring is underway, the territory model is drafted, and our CRM is live. You'll inherit some of that mid-stream, own the rest, and answer for the state's number.
A dedicated payor sales team owns insurance contracting. Your team owns referral demand: the treatment centers, clinicians, discharge planners, and community partners who send people to us.
This is a growth-stage company. You'll build things that don't exist yet, your results will be visible, and people who perform get more scope quickly.
You will go to market as an Outreach Manager.
What you'll do
- Get into the field immediately. Work existing referral relationships yourself and shadow the enrollment and coaching workflow before changing anything.
- Finish Territory Manager hiring and make the final calls on your team.
- Finalize the Pennsylvania territory model with the Director: hub markets, drive-time territories, and the account universe for each.
- Own the Pennsylvania referral number and report monthly by territory and channel.
- Be a player-coach. Coach every Territory Manager against their KPIs, run team trainings, and set the operating cadence in the CRM. When someone can't get there with real coaching behind them, manage them out with respect.
- Carry a personal book of strategic accounts: multi-site treatment groups, health systems, drug courts, and the state's highest-value relationships.
- Spend 3–4 days a week in the field on joint calls, key account meetings, and in-services.
- Own the state's events calendar. Get us speaking slots at the conferences worth our time and present at them.
- Adapt the national playbook to Pennsylvania's provider map, county referral patterns, and regional differences.
- Keep CRM data clean across the team and own the state's territory dashboards.
- Set the ethical tone. No referral fees, no per-head arrangements, no patient brokering. Walk your team away from anything close to it and screen for it in every hire. Operate within Accountable's compliance standards.
- Report field trends up, and hand plan-level opportunities to the payor sales team.
What success looks like
- Month 3: Team hired or on track, early hires making field calls with you, territory dashboards live and reviewed weekly.
- Month 6: Every territory active, referral volume ramping month over month, your strategic book producing.
- Month 12: Full team producing against ramp, active referring accounts growing in every territory, a bench of candidates you know by name.
Who you are
- Based in Pennsylvania with a valid driver's license and reliable transportation. This isn't a desk job.
- 5+ years of business development or outreach in behavioral health, addiction treatment, post-acute, or healthcare services. You know what a discharge planner's day looks like.
- You've managed or formally mentored field sales or outreach staff and held people to a number.
- You have real referral relationships in Pennsylvania's behavioral health community, or can show how fast you've built them elsewhere.
- You know Pennsylvania is several states in one. Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, the Northeast, and central PA all work differently, and you adjust by region.
- You've generated referral demand for services paid through different channels, including private pay.
- Disciplined about CRM and pipeline hygiene, for yourself and your team.
- Comfortable managing hybrid: video one-on-ones and dashboards, paired with regular in-person field days with each Territory Manager.
- A strong presenter your team wants in front of their accounts, and comfortable in very different rooms: a treatment center CEO, a hospital social worker, a worried parent.
- You take feedback well, give it without drama, and think about how the whole company wins.
Nice to have
- Experience in the Philadelphia or Pittsburgh treatment markets, or another dense recovery market.
- You've opened a territory from zero and can talk ramp specifics.
- Personal or family recovery experience. Valued here, never required.
Compensation and benefits
- $90,000–$115,000 base + bonus
- Medical, dental, and vision; PTO
- Mileage and travel reimbursement for in-state field work
